The Journey Home

 Friday, January 3

So the Journey begins...I really had a hard time saying goodbye this time! It sucks! My parents and the puppies took us to the airport. As we were checking in our bags at curbside, the helper was so nice to us. All of our bags were right at 50 pounds or maybe even a little over.  He asked where we were going and when we told him, he was fascinated by our story and wanted to know more! We were able to check 6 bags free and didn't get charged an overweight fee which was lovely! We didn't get to sit by each other this leg of the flight, but we both got window seats so I consider that a win! I'm going to miss these mountains!

Hello Atlanta! We landed on time and had a 4 hour layover. We grabbed some lunch at TGIFriday's then went to our gate...which was changed to a different terminal so we went there...and it was changed a third time!

Boarded our flight to Johannesburg! Here is this flight's menu, I'm not going to lie, I don't mind the food! Cory...it's too fancy for him!

I got the Chicken with chasseur sauce, garlic-thyme mashed potatoes, roasted mushrooms and green beans

Cory got the Beef short ribs with Riverview farm grits, succotash, and pickled red onions. I tried his succotash and it was actually pretty good!

Saturday, January 4

Mid flight, we were served breakfast.

I got the Croissant Bread Pudding with lemon ricotta & mixed berry compote. It was so good!

Cory got the Spinach and cheddar frittata with chicken sausage and tomatoes. He was able to pick out all the "icky" stuff.

After 8552.59 miles, we landed in Johannesburg Saturday night.  We waited at the baggage claim, and none of our bags came out so we headed to the hotel.

We were hungry when we got to the hotel so we decided to order room service. I ordered Cory a ham and cheese sandwich and myself an egg, bacon and cheese sandwich. I also order some drinks for us as well.  When they brought dinner, the brough in FIVE sandwich orders...they thought I said 4 ham and cheese sandwiches. We were laughing so hard. We had leftovers for breakfast but that still left 3 full sandwich platters!

Sunday, January 5

We woke up early and got packed up to go to the airport.

We made it to the gate and it was one of the small gates that you board a bus and it takes you to the plane.

Steven was with us on the flight!!

and.... we're back! Good old Lubumbashi

When we landed, we went through customs, then Abraham took us home while Dona stayed to collect our bags. One of our bags didn't make it, we figured it would come on the plane the next day like it does. It didn't... to be continued!
