Mikembo
We had a long, holiday weekend so we went to Mikembo with Moren & Sisca, Darius & Leonie, Leslie, Trent, Scotty & Kayla and kids! It was my first time being there and I loved it! I was a little nervous when I heard we would be camping in tents, but it wasn't that bad. The tents were "nice" and we just sprayed for insects 2-3 times a day. There was a pavilion where we cooked, visited, and ate. There was a pavilion closer to the river that had couches and a table. People napped there, we played games there and just relaxed!
It was very green, because of the rainy season. It was a very beautiful place!
Simi playing around in the eating pavilion.
Caught Cory taking a nap! You can see the tents in the background.
Scotty and Trent went and found some wild mushrooms and cooked them up! I was excited to taste them, I love mushrooms! These particular ones were not my favorite...they had a flavor I didn't like.
It was very hot and humid today so some of us got in the river to cool off!
Cory, Darius & Scotty went to camp one where they heard there were some 4-wheelers that weren't working. They wanted to try and get them going! Sisca, Kayla and I went for a walk to go see them. I loved seeing parts of the Congo that are in their natural form...it was beautiful! We say many mushrooms, and Precious, Kayla's nanny, taught us if you touch them and they turn black they are poisonous.
We had to get a shot with our Owala water bottles!
Sisca was showing Luan all of the ticks on the blades of grass, to warn him to be careful and not rub up against them. There were thousands of ticks on the tall grass. I tried getting pictures but they didn't turn out.
A beautiful oasis on our walk!
A huge termite mound along the road. There was also a shrine next to the road as well!
We made it to the guys and they almost had them running. By the time we got there, we didn't want to walk all the way back...well the kids didn't, I was loving the freedom to walk where ever! I drove everyone back in Darius truck. They ended up getting the red 4-wheeler running!
On our drive back we passed some warthogs!
That night, Scotty went night fishing and caught this HUGE cat fish!
The next day, it rained (drizzled) all day long. We had a relaxed day resting and playing games. There were swings and Simi loved having Cory push her. He is so cute with the kids.
They came back with more mushroom!
Some one brough these chips, Fried Egg, and they taste just like a fried egg with salt and pepper. They were good!
Nathan, Leslie and I...game time!
The rainy view.
That night, I had to go to the bathroom so many times. The bathroom is on the other side of the food pavilion. As I was going, we could hear something in the pavilion, rummaging through things. We walked over there and must have scared it off. I went to the bathroom and when I walked out, my light shone on a huge, grey pig/warthog in the pavilion with its head in the garbage can. I threw some pebbles at it and it walked away for a minutes and I was able to get back to my tent. Cory stood outside trying to see it. It finally went away and there was a mess in the morning.
We got to go for a game ride, to see if we could see any animals!
Some local women, collecting mushrooms to sell.
A giraffe feeding trough
Luan was tired by the end of the drive!
We had to get a picture of all the Owala's at camp. Cory and I brough some for us at the beginning and every time we come back, people ask for water bottles! They are so nice here!
Luan living his best life, eating and watching videos!
Morne living his best life fishing!
Luan caught a frog!
The group! Love them! We couldn't get one picture where everyone was looking the camera!
