Lost Bag

 As I said earlier, we had a bag not make it to the airport. We would check the air tag and it showed it was still in the airport from Johannesburg. We were in constant contact with Airlink Sunday - Thursday. They started saying the bag made it to Lubumbashi but our air tag showed Joburg still.  Long story short, our bag made it Wednesday to Lubumbashi but all of our contents did not! Luckily we had all those pictures so we are now starting the process of creating a claim with Airlink to get reimbursed. There is a total of $852 worth of items in there.  We had receipts for everything, because we had just purchased the items either on amazon or Costco.

I went with Dona to the airport to claim the bag.  These pictures are from the airport...I keep telling people you have never been to an airport like this one!

As we were leaving the airport, there was lady trying to come into oncoming traffic because she didn't want to wait in the line to enter. The guards were blocking her, but she refused to back up!

Our bag was cut around the zipper! They did leave one oft he stuffed animals I brought back for Simi, but Luan's was stolen. There was also a package of razor blade replacements left.

    Oh my hell I would have lost my shit! I'm so so sorry that that happened. Thank goodness you kept your receipts! I really hope that they reimburse you. I'm so sorry that happened.

 We had a long, holiday weekend so we went to Mikembo with Moren & Sisca, Darius & Leonie, Leslie, Trent, Scotty & Kayla and kids! It was my first time being there and I loved it!  I was a little nervous when I heard we would be camping in tents, but it wasn't that bad. The tents were "nice" and we just sprayed for insects 2-3 times a day. There was a pavilion where we cooked, visited, and ate. There was a pavilion closer to the river that had couches and a table. People napped there, we played games there and just relaxed!  It was very green, because of the rainy season. It was a very beautiful place!  Simi playing around in the eating pavilion.  Caught Cory taking a nap! You can see the tents in the background. Scotty and Trent went and found some wild mushrooms and cooked them up! I was excited to taste them, I love mushrooms!  These particular ones were not my favorite...they had a flavor I didn't like.    It was very hot and humid...

 Thursday, January 30, Morne had me work from home. He didn't want us leaving the compound. I spent the morning doing my normal work and then at 2:45 in the afternoon, Sisca came knocking on my door telling me there was an emergency meeting called at 3:00 and Morne wanted all of us on the phone for it.  We met in Leonie's house and called in.  Morne started out by telling us that the M23 Rwandan rebels, who had already taken over Goma in the North, had started moving south and were planning on taking over Bukavu.  They announced their intentions to continue moving south taking over Mbuji-Mayi, Kananga, Lubumbashi, and then make their was to Kinshasa. The US Embassy had already been attacked and set fire to.  There was discussion about what we should do and the home office was involved too.  It was decided that all the women and children should leave. Week 1 at Home ~ July 1 - 7

  Monday, July 1 I was able to be in town for this Westland Breakfast!  It was so fun to get together with all the women of Westland and laugh, visit and eat good food! One of my favorite things about Monday's in the summer is Springville City's Farmers Market!  We love to go walk around and look at all the fun booths then get some yummy food from the food trucks and share!  This time we got alfredo pasta, calzone, corn dogs, California roll sushi, BBQ brisket with garlic mashed potatoes.  Our favorite was the corn dogs and least favorite was the calzone.  I tried the sushi and it wasn't that bad...but there was no raw fish so apparently it's not real sushi!
