It is so expensive here...

If we were to eat like the locals, it would be very cheap to eat.  One bag of maize, which they make foo foo out of, costs $35 and it could last for ever.  We don't eat like them, though, so it is very expensive. Almost all of our food is imported from South Africa.  Here is an example. Here is my grocery haul...

I bought: 30 eggs, 1 loaf of stale bread, a package of buns, 4 packs of grillers (hot dogs), a small cube of ham, block of cheese, jar of mayo, 2 cubes of butter, 3 sauces (cream of soups), 2 cream cheeses, laundry detergent, 6 Coke Zero's 2 onions, 6 mediocre potatoes, and a pack of Qtips. It cost me $145!!!!

My sister, Katie, plugged it into Walmart in Utah and it would have cost $77.64 and that was for a full bag of potatoes, bottles of Coke Zero and larger detergent.

My sister, Hillary, plugged it into Walmart in Alaska and it was $91!

Sisca did the same for back in South Africa and it was $73!

PLUS...I didn't everything on my list! I still need to find carrots, dish soap, and flour!
