Week 2 At Home ~ July 8-14

 Monday, July 8

I spent the morning visiting with Lindsey and Haley, and I am super sad I didn't get any pictures. I miss working with them.  Katie came by to chat too!  Then I went to Katies to watch Jared's retirement ceremony from the Air Force! I wish I could have been in Alaska, supporting from there!


Tuesday, July 9

Kaylee and Aaron were able to buy a townhome.  We are so excited for them.  We spent the morning picking up a fridge they had bought off Facebook Market Place and hauled it down!  Aarons parents and sister came down and the realtor sent pizza!  Later we stopped at Handles for some ice cream.




Wednesday, July 10

Katie, Hope and I went on a beautiful hike today. We started at Brighton Resort and hiked up the mountain to Lake Mary, Lake Martha, & Lake Catherine.  We even ran across some snow! Afterwards, we drove over Guardsman's Pass down into Midway and had grilled cheese sandwiches at Heber Valley Artisan Cheese. That evening, I went to Cory's cousins house, Matt and Candy, for dinner.  It was fun to catch up with all of them.  Matt, Sarah and Katie were there.  (Bonnie's son had his wisdom teeth out that day so she stayed home with him.) Kristie Taylor was also there.  I am sad I didn't get any pictures!













 





Thursday, July 11

Went to dinner with my friends.  We went to Zupa's and ended up staying until closing, just catching up.  I miss this! After dinner, Kaylee, Aaron, Katie and I played pickleball...so much fun!!



Friday, July 12

Got a massage this morning, I miss them so much!  Then I went and picked Cory up at the airport!  So excited to have him home!  He was hungry and wanted chicken nuggets (imagine that!) When he got home, the first thing he wanted to do was take his motorcycle out...he tried taking Moqui, but she freaked out so he took Kona and she loved it!  We had a BBQ and sat on the deck and caught up!


Saturday, July 13

Mat and Yolanda knew Cory would want to get out and ride so we planned an all day ride.  We went up American Fork canyon and took a break at the top to visit and snack. Then we dropped down into Midway and up to Kamas where we had lunch at a Mexican Restaurant. Then we went up to Provo River Falls.  We sat and put our feet in the water and visited.  It was so hot, we ended up getting out pants wet to help cool us off...they were dry withing 10 minutes.  We drove down to Park City, up over Guardsman's Pass and back into Midway. We pulled over and sat in some shade and visited. Because it was Emery's and Kaylee's birthday we planned pedicures so Kaylee met us in American Fork for those!

 We had a long, holiday weekend so we went to Mikembo with Moren & Sisca, Darius & Leonie, Leslie, Trent, Scotty & Kayla and kids! It was my first time being there and I loved it!  I was a little nervous when I heard we would be camping in tents, but it wasn't that bad. The tents were "nice" and we just sprayed for insects 2-3 times a day. There was a pavilion where we cooked, visited, and ate. There was a pavilion closer to the river that had couches and a table. People napped there, we played games there and just relaxed!  It was very green, because of the rainy season. It was a very beautiful place!  Simi playing around in the eating pavilion.  Caught Cory taking a nap! You can see the tents in the background. Scotty and Trent went and found some wild mushrooms and cooked them up! I was excited to taste them, I love mushrooms!  These particular ones were not my favorite...they had a flavor I didn't like.    It was very hot and humid...

 Thursday, January 30, Morne had me work from home. He didn't want us leaving the compound. I spent the morning doing my normal work and then at 2:45 in the afternoon, Sisca came knocking on my door telling me there was an emergency meeting called at 3:00 and Morne wanted all of us on the phone for it.  We met in Leonie's house and called in.  Morne started out by telling us that the M23 Rwandan rebels, who had already taken over Goma in the North, had started moving south and were planning on taking over Bukavu.  They announced their intentions to continue moving south taking over Mbuji-Mayi, Kananga, Lubumbashi, and then make their was to Kinshasa. The US Embassy had already been attacked and set fire to.  There was discussion about what we should do and the home office was involved too.  It was decided that all the women and children should leave. Week 1 at Home ~ July 1 - 7

  Monday, July 1 I was able to be in town for this Westland Breakfast!  It was so fun to get together with all the women of Westland and laugh, visit and eat good food! One of my favorite things about Monday's in the summer is Springville City's Farmers Market!  We love to go walk around and look at all the fun booths then get some yummy food from the food trucks and share!  This time we got alfredo pasta, calzone, corn dogs, California roll sushi, BBQ brisket with garlic mashed potatoes.  Our favorite was the corn dogs and least favorite was the calzone.  I tried the sushi and it wasn't that bad...but there was no raw fish so apparently it's not real sushi! Tuesday, July 2 We got up at 5:30 so we could go fishing up at Strawberry.  Kim and Janet met us up there.  I dressed for warm weather and it was so cold that morning.  I was bundled up in blankets and sweatshirts.  It warmed up as the morning went on.  It was so nice to be out ...
