We’re Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo!

Well…we had our first outing here, we went to the zoo!! Let start out by saying, my first Monday here, I opened an email from my nephew who is serving a mission right now and he said “if you want to enjoy your mission, you need to find joy in the work”. I really needed to hear that, and I really needed to start looking for the little things that bring me joy!

So when our neighbors, Sam & Amelia, invited to go with their family to the zoo Saturday afternoon, of course we jumped at the chance!  Now, here I go again with the maps but…🤷🏽‍♀️

Sam's sister and her family were meeting us there.  Justin, Sam’s brother in law laid for everyone and then I paid him back. He told us because we were white, they would try and charge us more! We had a guide take us around the zoo which was nice!

There were 6 adults 8 children so we were quite a big group!

It is the dry season here. The last time it rained was April. There is dust everywhere and half of the trees are dormant for the winter. When the rainy season starts in November, it will rain every day until April!

Our first stop was the donkeys and goats.

Finding the “joy”

Some type of antelope!

While we were walking around a worker gave us these little “donut holes”. They were fried balls of dough with just the slightest hint of sweetness. Cory taught Lauren a trick and here is picture of Lauren trying it in her dad Sam!

Next up, the crocodiles. There were 2 in the cage but we could only see one. He is 80 years old!

The tigers were napping and didn’t want to come out so they opened the door for us to see them sleeping in their bunk beds!

Same with the lions, they didn’t want to come out so they opened the door for us!

Finding more joy❤️

Now, let me introduce some of the cutest kids out there! Lauren, Junior, Jason, Ella…are our cute neighbors! Lauren and Ella want to have a nail painting party, which I am all about!

We got to go into the zebra enclosure to get a closer look at them!

Monkeys!

Finished out the zoo tour with some ostrich’s. Not much to the zoo but it was nice to get out and walk around and feel safe!

As we were leaving the zoo, we came across a cat and had to stop and pet it, knowing that’s what Ashley would have done!

And that concludes the tour of the Lubumbashi Zoo….we stopped at the restaurant to have dinner but they were out of hamburgers, water, chicken…so we had popcorn!
