First Visit to the Temple Site

We landed in Lubumbashi on Thursday, August 3rd at 1:30 PM.  They took us to our house where we unpacked and then took a nap! We had a ham and cheese sandwich for dinner and then fell back asleep!  We were exhausted!  The next day our driver, Blaise, came to pick us up to run some errands.  Blaise is from Lubumbashi and he served his mission in the Ivory Coast, where he learned English from his companions so it is nice to have someone be able to translate for us. We need to learn French!

On our way to the temple site, we passed multiple yellow vans.  This is their bus/taxi system.  The guy hanging out the door will tap on the roof of the van when the driver needs to stop.  There are 15-20 people crammed in these vans.  It costs about a dollar to ride in it, not matter how far you need to go.

Walking into the future site for the Lubumbashi Temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints.  It is surrounded by fences and has a guarded gate that is manned 24 hours a day.

When you come in the gate and look to the right, this is the future site of the missionary housing. The white building in the top left corner is the Westland office. We can overlook the project!

Below is the septic tank system being built. It is in the center of the lot and will be covered with drive way and parking. I am standing as if I was in front of the temple, looking out to the street and the guard shack.

This is an old swimming pool that was uncovered during the dig.  You can see the blue tile on the right side of the pool.

They are also currently working on the patron housing but for now it is just a hole.  Nothing has begun on the actual Temple, it is just level ground right now.
