New Friends at Church

Image
I have been going into primary the first 15 minutes and playing the piano for them to learn the song, Je Marche avec Jesus , (I will walk with Jesus).   After I finish I go to class.  Yesterday, Relief Society was full and let's be honest, I would sit and read talks or my scriptures in there because I don't understand anything.  I decided to sit outside and read my scriptures.  My friends from a couple of weeks ago, that came and played with my hair, came and sat by  me again and they were touching my painted fingernails.  I turned to the back page of my scriptures, the book Scriptures Made Easy, and traced their hands and drew fingernails and then let them decorate them.  I soon had more girls wanting to do the same thing so I turned to the back page of my study guide and did the same thing.  They had so much fun choosing different colors of pens to decorate their hands with. I remember doing the same things when I was about their age!

Ashley's Rae of Light Scholarship

Image
It's the time of year again, where we give out scholarships in honor of Ashley.  This year, since I was in Africa, I had Katie pick them up and then send me the information without the names so I could do the "judging" with anonymity. I also sent the information to other people as well as having people here look at it.  They gave me their top 4 and from that I was going to pick 2.  There was a unanimous vote for 1 and then a tie for the second.  I couldn't decide so we went with 3 scholarships!  Katie, Kaylee, Ben, and Sam went and presented them at the school. Lindsey wasn't there for the picture!

A Braii & Driving

Image
Saturday, Trent had us over for a Braii.  I love trying all the different foods! Ragheb made Falafel's and broke them up & mixed them with lettuce, pickels, tomatoes, and mayo then we put them in a wrap...it was delicous! It is so nice to just sit, relax and visit! Richmond's wife is here visiting.  It was so nice to meet her, she is very quite and shy! Leslie making his Ghanian rice dish...it is spicy! All the yummy meat: chicken, beef, hamburgers, chicken burgers, T-bone steaks! I had to sneak away for choir practice, I play the piano for them and we are getting ready for ward conference. I didn't want Cory to have to leave so I braved driving there my self!  It was so nice driving...I just took the back roads and was aggressive, (just like they are) and we made it! Laurene was surprised I could drive because she has never seen me do it.  I told her I CAN drive I just don't dare drive down here.  She was shocked to learn I have been driving for 30 y...

Church

Image
When you are the only white women in church, they notice when you aren't there!😁 Everyone was so welcoming and these two darling girls just sat and played with my hair.  They love to feel the texture of my hair.  I won't complain! Ella decided she needed to wear a crown for the day and cover herself in stickers!  Love that girl!

Things I did while I was Home...

Image
While I was home, I was able to get much needed rest and medication to get better.  I was able to do some things as well. I went to the Manti Temple Open House with Katie and Yolanda (Shar was supposed to come as well but couldn't last minute).  I'm not sure what I was expecting, but there weren't a lot of changes in the temple. But I was able to do some research before hand and I have a new found love and appreciation for the craftsmanship and art in the temple.  We swung by Ephraim Temple on our way back and then stopped in Spring City and got lunch. Payson Canyon is one of my favorite places to go spend time in.  Since I spend most of my time not being active in Lubumbashi, when I am home, I love to get out. We went for a hike up to the Grotto. The road was closed at Maple Lake so we walked on the road, it was nice to let the dogs off leash and let them explore. Hillary was here for part of the time.  My sweet mom has to have oxygen when she exercises. ...
